Border Websites of Interest

We provide here a list of websites that are good starting points to find other web sites run by government, industry and non-governmental organizations involved in border environmental issues.

  • Border EcoWeb is a project of the U.S. - Mexican Border Environmental Information Project, a collaborative effort among San Diego State University, the Autonomous University of Baja California, the Environmental Protection Agency, SEMARNAP and the U.S. -Mexico Border Information Institute (INFOMEXUS), an NGO based in Ciudad Juarez. Border EcoWeb provides a one-stop shopping guide to other web sites run by governments, business and other institutions about the border environment.

  • BIOS (Border Information and Outreach Service) is a new binational organization administered by Interhemispheric Resource Center in Silver City, New Mexico. BIOS serves as a clearinghouse for information and resources about the border environment and has many useful web link resources and action kits on particular issues.

  • In addition to BIOS,  the Interhemispheric Resource Center web site also has information about its projects and publications, including the monthly Borderlines.

  • The Maquiladora Health & Safety Support Network provides information regarding workplace hazards and safety issues in the over 3,200 "maquiladora" (foreign-owned assembly) plants located along the U.S./Mexico border. The Maquiladora Health & Safety Support Network actively supports maquiladora workers in their efforts to create safe workplace environments and ensure that maquila plants comply with Mexican labor laws.

  • Free-lance writer Ron Mader runs Ecotravels in Latin America, as well as Border Environmental Archives, an interesting web site with links to many border web resources, including his own publication, La Planeta Platica.

  • The Texas Natural Resource Information System runs the Texas/Mexico Borderlands Data and Information Center, which has a web site where environmental information on the border can be accessed.
