On May 3, 2002, the Texas Center for Policy Studies co-sponsored a binational conference on the Río Conchos.

The purpose of the conference was to explore the historical development of the Conchos basin and current water uses and management issues. In addition, the co-sponsors sought to develop a set of recommendations on what can be done to help preserve and restore this vitally important river system.
